Afghan Hound
Best of Breed: #210, Jangels Just A Gigolo, owned by Nikki Deen & Marie Claire Hannigan
Best of Opposite Sex: #121, DC TopFlite Blue Willow Elite SC, owned by Deb Peters

I placed #210 BOB and #121 BOS because they have the correct height to length proportions. The head appears refined, balanced, and has a topknot of long, silky hair. I would like to see #210 with his rear brought a little forward to level his topline and see how it changes his profile. I assume it would only make him look better but I can only see what the photo shows. He is a balanced, powerful dog with good muscling. BOS is between #225, #211, #132, and #121. I like all four of these bitches very much. #225 has a pleasing, balanced profile. #211 is exotic looking. She has a nice head, a front set under her body, and a balanced, flowing rear. Her topline is strong and her tail set is correct. #132 is also balanced with a level topline, correct croup, and low hocks. I find #121 very exotic looking. I love her angulation, low hocks, muscling, and chest. Unfortunately the wind is blowing so the hair on her sides is blowing up to make the outline of her topline and croup difficult to evaluate.

When you are judging it is always fun to struggle with placing of dogs you like versus struggling with placing dogs you do not care for. As I type this I still am struggling on which should be first. But I need to move on with the judging so I will place #121 first.

American Foxhound
Best of Breed: #118, Ch.Kiarry's Who's Next @ Kelly Mt, owned by Harry & Lisa Miller

BOB goes to #118. The angle of the photo makes it difficult to judge the profile of the dog. I love, however, what I can see. Possibly would have placed higher in the group if I could see more of his body/profile.

Basenji
Best of Breed: #144, CH Echelon Noble Eagle of Melar, owned by Melody Falcone
Best of Opposite Sex: #145, AB No Quarter Given at Melar, owned by Melody Falcone

I place #144 BOB and #145 BOS. I place #144 over #145 because it appears that the tail is set higher on the topline and she appears to have smaller ears. It would be nice to see both dogs in profile. #144 looks a little long in muzzle.

Beagle
Best of Breed: #191, Danter's Fairy Tale of Pun Kotzky, owned by Oleg Voloshin
Best of Opposite Sex: #171, Ch. Irish Coffey Gilleagain, owned by Bob and Pat Coffey

I place #191 BOB and #171 BOS. Both have plenty of bone, chests that are broad and deep, and have a moderately high tail set. Their ears are set on moderately low. I place #191 over #171 because I like his balance and the way his shoulders sloped into his body. #171 has a pleading expression but at the angle of the photo he appears longer in body.

Black and Tan Coonhound
Best of Breed: #172, Ch Windbourne's Dr Watson, owned by Roger & Lynn Seabrook,S.Campbell
Best of Opposite Sex: #189, Ch FullMoon's UnFaith Full, owned by Meridith K.Langston

I place #172 BOB and #189 BOS because they give the impression of power, agility, and alertness. The back is level and strong, the neck is muscular and of medium length. The tail is strong with its base slightly below the level of the backline. The shoulders are powerfully constructed and the hindquarters are well boned, muscled, and the stifles are well bent. I like the depth of chest on my BOB winner but I grant the pasterns are more correct on my BOS winner. The standard mentions that added size should not be penalized as long as the dog maintains correct balance and structure. This describes my BOB winner. The younger dogs are very promising but did not have the maturity to compete with my BOB and BOS winners.

Bloodhound
Best of Breed: #194, Honey West sniffs spottyacre, owned by Lori
Best of Opposite Sex: #202, Ch. Wychway's Dawggone Terrific, CGC, owned by Lori Burch & Susan Hamil

The Bloodhound should be very powerful and for their size, stand over more ground than any other hound. I pick #194 for BOB and #202 for BOS. #194 – I like her length of leg and overall balance. I feel her head is the best in the class. She has a longer neck and her shoulders are muscular and well sloped. The ribs are well sprung and the hocks are well bent and squarely set. The male stands over a lot of ground and stands balanced. Compared to the female I would like to see a little more length of leg and stronger pasterns.

Borzoi
Best of Breed: #219, Ch. Borscana Thor Thunder, owned by Jean Patten, Jan McMinn, Lize Edland & Rickard Sellin
Best of Opposite Sex: #221, CH Kansai'z All That Attitude, owned by Jan McMinn & Jean Patten

I place #219 BOB and #221 BOS. All three Borzoi are good representatives of the breed. However, I like the head of my BOB winner. He has smaller ears kept in a tight rose position. The flow from the neck into the topline and croup is pleasing. He stands balanced and appears to have good muscling. The breed can be shown in or out of coat but his coat adds to the pleasing picture.

Dachshund (Smooth)
Best of Breed: #127, CH Seacrest Barbra Streisand SS, owned by Roland Hernandez
Best of Opposite Sex: #131, CH Seacrest Grand Masterpiece SS, owned by Roland Hernandez

I place #127 BOB and #131 BOS. My BOB is long in body and short on leg with muscular development. Her head tapers uniformly to the tip of the nose. Her neck flows gracefully into the shoulders and the back lies in the straightest possible line between the withers and the short loin. Her chest bone is prominent in front and her upper arm appears to be the same length as her scapula. The lowest point of the breast line is covered by the front legs. She has a slightly drawn tuck up. Her hindquarters are a serious of right angles. The tail set is a continuation of the spine. I would like to know the age of #131. I assume it is a younger dog. I would give an AOM to #166..

Dachshund (Wirehaired)
Best of Breed: #174, Raydachs Ms Lowretta-Lin, owned by Storm B Ilouno
Best of Opposite Sex: #128, CH Rosadachs Texas Longhorn "BEVO" W, owned by Roland Hernandez

I place #174 BOB and #128 BOS. I love how the topline flows starting at the neck, passing over the smooth shoulders, and into the croup. She is has a pleasing, balanced profile. #128 and #163 are very similar in style and structure. Some structures I would love to feel but it is not possible judging from the photos. It would appear that #128 has a longer posterior sternum..

Best of Opposite Sex: #215, ch Heirloom Head in the Clouds, owned by Aleta Sharafanowich

I place #216 BOB and #215 BOS. Both individuals are very similar in head structure, neck, topline, size, and rear. The difference is in the placement of the upper arm and underline..

Harrier
Best of Breed: #109, Ch. Easton Lilac, owned by Donna Smiley-Auborn
Best of Opposite Sex: #213, Ch Pacific's Glory Road, owned by Rebecca La Rue

I place BOB #109 and BOS #213. Only two males entered this class of lovely females. We have two styles of Harrier. One is very sturdy and the other is elegant but having less muscling, especially in their rears. I struggled between #109 and #110 for BOB. I like the head on #110 plus her level topIine, tail set, forechest, and underline. I placed #109 Best of Breed because of her overall balance and she appears sturdily built with large bone for her size. I would have enjoyed seeing them move before making my placements..

Ibizan Hound
Best of Breed: #164, Ch.Amahte's Stand By Me, owned by Ron & Rosemary Young & Roberta Hozempa
Best of Opposite Sex: #197, Am/Can Ch.Wishsong's Manannan Mac Lir, owned by Roberta Hozempa

I give BOB to #164 and BOS to #197. I grant #116 has the largest ears but I cannot judge on just the size of ears. I like the profile of my BOB winner. She has a nice long neck with a smooth flowing topline, deep chest, balanced angulation, and she has that deer like look that gives the impression of being able to spring to great heights..

Irish Wolfhound
Best of Breed: #147, Lismore Kabuki Claddagh, owned by Audrey Rajec

I place #147 BOB. I like the balance of my BOB winner plus how her front is set under her. She has a correct topline. I would like better ear carriage..

Best of Opposite Sex: #181, CH Elvbend's The Soldier's Tear, owned by Amy Peterson

I place #126 BOB and #181 BOS. I am looking for a square dog with a short loin, high tail set, and having the appearance of the distance from the ground to the brisket being half the height at the withers. My BOB winner fits this description except for the high tail set..
